Air Force Sneakers

Air Force sneakers were Nike’s original hit release. They came out in 1982, at the same time that Nike became a major television advertiser. Over the years, consumers have come to count on the consistent quality that Air Force sneakers provide.

The basic style of Air Force sneakers hasn’t changed much since the 80’s. There are still classic colors combinations, black on black and white on white. Both these shoes are monochromatic with the visual interest being provided by different layers of stitching and the ventilation holes in certain panels of the upper. The Nike swoosh trademark is noticeable on the outer side of the shoe. Air Force shoes are generally found in low rise and mid rise styles, but you can sometimes get your hands on a pair of high tops as well. Nowadays, the basic Air Force color palette has been expanded and you can find over a thousand color combinations that still display the Air Force logo.

Air Force sneakers were the first to implement Nike’s amazing breakthrough in cushioning technology. Before Air Force shoes came onto the market, you either had a choice between a lightweight sneaker with no support, or a heavy sneaker with lots of foam padding. Then Nike thought to cushion the foot using capsules of air. All Air Force shoes have same urethane capsules at the ball and heel. In these capsules is pressurized air. When you put pressure on these capsules as you walk or run, they bend to cushion the impact of your foot and immediately return to their original shape once the pressure is released.

Immediately, basketball players noticed the difference. They were able to jump higher and land softer than ever before. Air Force sneakers are still found on basketball courts of all skill levels, from the playground pickup game to the NBA. When Air Force shoes were first released, they were very popular with the urban crowd and could be seen on the feet of many hip hop artists. The classic design of Air Force sneakers has ensured that they are now a popular choice for athletic shoes across the market.
