Exclusive Sneakers
The movie The Shawshank Redemption asks the question: "How
often do you really look at a man’s shoes?" Our answer would have to be every day. This is especially true if
you are sporting some of the more exclusive sneaker lines available on the market. The right sneakers can be
viewed as an investment; our feet take us everywhere we need to be and those hardworking feet need comfort
and cushioning, as well as a dash of style. If you are able to score a pair of exclusive sneakers, you will
not only be traveling in comfort, but with the knowledge that everyone is looking at your
shoes.
Without a doubt, the best shoes come from Nike. Nike has been making quality
sneakers since the 1970’s. In the 1980’s their popularity soared. Suddenly, their one-time release shoes became
coveted, hard to find items. Today, people will scour the internet to find a pair of Air Jordan VIII in mint
condition and will pay a pretty penny to own these ultra exclusive sneakers. Nike is playing into their label as an
exclusive brand by re-releasing shoes ten or fifteen years after they have been taken off the market. These retro
styles are all the rage and can be cleaned out of a store’s inventory in less than a week, especially during the
busy back to school and Christmas shopping seasons.
New Balance is also competing to hold a spot in the exclusive sneaker market as
well. They don’t do it by the limited release technique so popular with Nike. Instead, they have been the pioneer
in the corporate responsibility. When other shoe companies were being investigated about allegations of overseas
child labor, New Balance was moving from strength to strength in their factories located in Maine and
Massachusetts. New Balance also serves as a watchdog over their suppliers and won’t accept materials from anyone
who does not meet their exacting standard of ethical quality. The corporation also gives back to the community in
the form of donations, giving in kind to shelters, and providing footwear for disaster relief initiatives. New
Balance’s exclusive sneakers will hopefully set an example to other companies.
